Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Dutch vessels on the Scheldt by Thomas Sewell Robins was sold in the The Marine Sale auction at Bonhams in April this year. The price achieved of GBP 5,737.50 (€ 6,538.88) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 5,000.00 – 7,000.00. Admittedly, works by Thomas Sewell Robins have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Studies of the cutter yacht Cygnet, one showing her beating Vision at the Southampton Regatta in 1848; the other with Cygnet winning the Queen's Cup at Cowes in 1849, a pair each 54 x 76.8cm (21 1/4 x 30 1/4in). (2) in October last year with an auction result of GBP 49,440.00 (€ 57,597.05).
