The »bidding war« ended at GBP 2,232.50 (€ 3,453.17), 24% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Thomas Colman Dibdin - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A group of nine drawings for Illustrations of the Rock Cut Temples of India including Frontispiece, Khandagiri Hill, Cuttak; The Chaitya Cave, Ajanta (illustrated); Entrance to the Chaitya Cave, Ajanta; The Verandah of Vihara (illustrated); Exterior, which sold at auction in September 2003 for GBP 11,950.00 (€ 12,0
