Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The English entomologist, 1792 by Thomas Martyn was sold in the The Library of Henry Rogers Broughton, 2nd Baron Fairhaven Part I auction at Sothebys in London in May last year. The price achieved of GBP 2,394.00 (€ 2,816.31) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Martyn achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Figures of plants, 1796, original botanical watercolours in May last year with an auction result of GBP 47,880.00 (€ 56,326.26).
