Auction result well in line with expectations
In December 2013 Sothebys in London held the auction Old Master & British Paintings Day Sale, which included the work Portrait Of Sir James Lowther, 1St Earl Of Lonsdale (1736–1802) Three-Quarter Length, Holding A Mask In His Right Hand by Thomas Hudson. It changed hands for a price of GBP 37,500.00 (€ 45,106.68) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of GBP 30,000.00 – 40,000.00. Admittedly, works by Thomas Hudson have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait of John and Robert, sons of Robert Ker, 2nd Duke of Roxburghe, in van Dyck costume with their two dogs, an extensive landscape beyond in October 2020 with an auction result of USD 450,000.00 (€ 386,365.59).
