This artwork by The Master Of The Female Half-Lengths achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in July 2002. In the Important Old Master Pictures auction, the work The Magdalene playing the lute sold for GBP 479,650.00 (€ 765,060.36) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 200,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by The Master Of The Female Half-Lengths; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Mary Magdalene Holding The Unguent Jar sold at auction in July 2014 with the realized price of GBP 866,500.00 (€ 1,092,928.94).
