This artwork by Taryn Simon achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in October 2020. In the Contemporary Photographs auction, the work Cryopreservation Unit, Cryonics Institute, Clinton Township, Michigan sold for USD 15,120.00 (€ 12,981.88) - well above the upper estimate of USD 7,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Taryn Simon; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Larry Mayes, Scene of Arrest, The Royal Inn, Gary, Indiana. Police found Mayes hiding beneath a mattress in this room. Served 18,5 years of an 80-year sentence for rape, robbery and unlawful deviate. sold at auction in June 2021 with the realized price of EUR 18,060.00.
