In November 2003 Christies in London held the auction BRITISH AND VICTORIAN PICTURES, which included the work The story of the hare that got away by Talbot Hughes. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 9,400.00 (€ 13,493.84), 57% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Talbot Hughes - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Sewing for victory, which sold at auction in May 2002 for GBP 19,975.00 (€ 31,281.12).

Im November 2003 führte Christies in London die Auktion BRITISH AND VICTORIAN PICTURES durch, in der auch die Arbeit The story of the hare that got away von Talbot Hughes zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 9.400,00 (€ 13.493,84) und damit 57% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Talbot Hughes mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Sewing for victory beobachtet, die im Mai 2002 für GBP 19.975,00 (€ 31.281,12) versteigert wurde.
