A chuban yoko-e abuna-e (risqué picture) print depicting the waitress Osen of the Kagiya Teahouse, attempting to thwart the advances of her samurai client, a piebald cat curled up into a ball, asleep in front of a kamado (cooking stove) beside a portable lacquer shelf filled with tea bowls and tea canisters resting on a bench; unsigned. 19.9cm x 27.8cm (7 13/16in x 10 15/16in).

It achieved a price of GBP 10,240.00 (€ 11,914.31), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 28%. Admittedly, works by Suzuki Harunobu have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Furyu enshoku Maneemon (Fashionable lusty Maneemon) in March 2007 with an auction result of USD 144,000.00 (€ 107,671.60).

Die Arbeit the waitress Osen of the Kagiya Teahouse von Suzuki Harunobu wurde im Mai diesen Jahres in der Auktion From Harunobu to Hasui | Japanese Prints across the centuries bei Bonhams in London versteigert. Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von GBP 10.240,00 (€ 11.914,31) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 28%. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Suzuki Harunobu auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Furyu enshoku Maneemon (Fashionable lusty Maneemon) im März 2007 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 144.000,00 (€ 107.671,60).
