Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Portrait Of F. Dudley Docker by Stanhope Alexander Forbes was auctioned at Christies in New York in April 2021, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 5,000.00 – 8,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 1,875.00 (€ 1,558.60). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Stanhope Alexander Forbes achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Quarry Team in July 2018 with an auction result of GBP 237,500.00 (€ 266,289.72).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Portrait Of F. Dudley Docker von Stanhope Alexander Forbes im April 2021 bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 5.000,00 – 8.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 1.875,00 (€ 1.558,60) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Stanhope Alexander Forbes erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit The Quarry Team im Juli 2018 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 237.500,00 (€ 266.289,72).
