Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Moonlit Bay by Sophus Jacobsen was sold in the 19th Century European Art auction at Christies in New York in April 2016. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 20,000.00 – 30,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 21,250.00 (€ 18,573.55) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Other works by Sophus Jacobsen have already achieved higher auction prices, for example, in October 2002 the work Gondoliers on the Grand Canal with a view of Santa Maria Maggiore, Venice was auctioned for USD 31,070.00 (€ 31,444.19).
