This artwork by John Corbett achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in April 2011. In the Travel, Science and Natural History auction, the work Sixteen African views including: Table Mountain and Wynberg Church; False Bay from Wynberg; Lemon Valley, St Helena; St Helena from the southward; St Paul's de Londa, west coast of Africa; Anabon Island, coast of Africa; Funchal, Madeira sold for GBP 1,750.00 (€ 1,970.80) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 700.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by John Corbett; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Thirteen views of India and eight views of Ceylon including: Allahabad, angle of fort at junction of the Ganges and Jumna; Junction of the Ganges and Jumna at Allahabad looking from the walls of the fortress; From the glacis of fort Allahabad bridge sold at auction in April 2011 with the realized price of GBP 3,500.00 (€ 3,941.60).
