This artwork by John Corbett achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in April 2011. In the Travel, Science and Natural History auction, the work Four views of Mauritius: Outside of the Harbour of Port Louis; Peter Both and La Ponaer from the Signal Hill, Isle of Mauritius; A street Port Louis and flamboyant tree, Mauritius; and From Signal Hill looking over Plain William, Mauritius sold for GBP 1,875.00 (€ 2,111.57) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by John Corbett; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Thirteen views of India and eight views of Ceylon including: Allahabad, angle of fort at junction of the Ganges and Jumna; Junction of the Ganges and Jumna at Allahabad looking from the walls of the fortress; From the glacis of fort Allahabad bridge sold at auction in April 2011 with the realized price of GBP 3,500.00 (€ 3,941.60).
