This price was achieved in the auction Dipinti Antichi at Christies in Milan and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of EUR 40,000.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Simone Cantarini; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Portrait of A Seated Gentleman And A Lady Holding A Rosary sold at auction in April 2006 with the realized price of USD 408,000.00 (€ 323,193.92).
