This artwork by Simon Maris achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in Amsterdam in March 2000. In the Pictures, Watercolours and Drawings auction, the work Double portrait of the artist's children, Mies and Thijs- a study (recto); a lady wearing a bonnet- a study (verso) sold for NLG 2,925.50 (€ 1,244.58) - well above the upper estimate of NLG 1,500.00. Admittedly, works by Simon Maris have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Two young girls in the dunes in March 2000 with an auction result of NLG 23,404.00 (€ 9,956.60).
