This artwork by Simon Vouet achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in December 2008. In the Old Master & British Pictures (Evening Sale) auction, the work The Rest on the Flight into Egypt sold for GBP 349,250.00 (€ 366,814.12) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 180,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Simon Vouet; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Madonna and Child sold at auction in May last year with the realized price of USD 504,000.00 (€ 469,667.32).
