The work Butterflies by Shibata Zeshin was sold in the Japanese Art & Design auction at Christies in London in June 2003. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 1,792.50 (€ 2,575.92), 49% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Shibata Zeshin achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Album Of Twelve Lacquer Paintings in September 2013 with an auction result of USD 339,750.00 (€ 251,015.88).

Die Arbeit Butterflies von Shibata Zeshin wurde im Juni 2003 in der Auktion Japanese Art & Design bei Christies in London versteigert. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 1.792,50 (€ 2.575,92) und damit 49% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Shibata Zeshin erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Album Of Twelve Lacquer Paintings im September 2013 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 339.750,00 (€ 251.015,88).
