Auction result well in line with expectations
In March 2008 Christies in New York held the auction Japanese And Korean Art, which included the work Distant view of Mounts Fuji and Satta from Suruga Bay by Shiba Kokan. The price achieved of USD 25,000.00 (€ 15,817.78) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 20,000.00 – 30,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Shiba Kokan - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Three Europeans on horseback in landscape, ca. 1789-1801, which sold at auction in September 2006 for USD 45,600.00 (€ 35,942.30).
