In July last year Bonhams in London held the auction The Grand Tour Sale, which included the work Vesuvius erupting by moonlight by Sebastian Pether. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 20,400.00 (€ 24,361.22), 70% above the upper estimate. This high result makes Vesuvius erupting by moonlight the most expensive artwork by Sebastian Pether that we have observed at auctions so far.
