In May 2007 Christies in London held the auction Sporting Art, Wildlife & Dogs, which included the work A lion and lioness; and The lions den by Sawrey Gilpin. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 840.00 (€ 1,236.12), 40% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Sawrey Gilpin achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Hawking in November 2007 with an auction result of GBP 84,500.00 (€ 118,321.86).

Im Mai 2007 führte Christies in London die Auktion Sporting Art, Wildlife & Dogs durch, in der auch die Arbeit A lion and lioness; and The lions den von Sawrey Gilpin zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 840,00 (€ 1.236,12) und damit 40% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Sawrey Gilpin erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Hawking im November 2007 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 84.500,00 (€ 118.321,86).
