This artwork by Samuel van Hoogstraten achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in October 2013. In the Old Masters & British Paintings auction, the work Portrait of a gentleman, possibly Caspar Calthoff (d.1664), three-quarter-length, in a brown coat, his right arm resting on a water pump sold for GBP 11,875.00 (€ 14,036.16) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 6,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Samuel van Hoogstraten achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work La Crucifixion in March 2018 with an auction result of EUR 319,000.00.

Oberer Schätzpreis um 98 % übertroffen

Dieses Kunstwerk von Samuel van Hoogstraten erzielte im Oktober 2013 bei Christies in London einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Old Masters & British Paintings wurde die Arbeit Portrait of a gentleman, possibly Caspar Calthoff (d.1664), three-quarter-length, in a brown coat, his right arm resting on a water pump für GBP 11.875,00 (€ 14.036,16) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von GBP 6.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Samuel van Hoogstraten erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit La Crucifixion im März 2018 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von EUR 319.000,00.
