Auction result well in line with expectations
In December 2008 Christies in New York held the auction Maritime Art, which included the work Clipper Ship in Full Sail passing a Lightship by Samuel John Milton Brown. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 1,500.00 – 2,500.00, the actual price achieved of USD 1,625.00 (€ 1,167.47) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Samuel John Milton Brown - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work "Britain's empire watch dog"; and "Britain's old time pride and glory" - H.M.S. Victory (illustrated), which sold at auction in May 2011 for GBP 3,500.00 (€ 4,002.26).
