The first, a winter scene with a figure wearing a mino, an outercoat made of rice straw, crossing a snow-covered bridge headed towards a village buried in the snow, signed Kiyoshi Saito in Roman letters in pencil, and sealed Kiyoshi in Japanese, with an additional seal on the verso suri, Ikegami (printing, Ikegami); the second, a scene of figures, including one wearing fumidawara, bucket-like footwear made of rice straw used for creating paths in the snow, on a snow-covered street with snow-laden buildings behind them, signed Kiyoshi Saito in Roman characters and sealed Kiyoshi in Japanese; the third, of a figure with an ox puddling a rice paddy with structures in the background, signed Kiyoshi Saito in Roman characters and sealed Kiyoshi in Japanese (3)

Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Kiyoshi Saito achieved an unexpectedly high price at Bonhams in New York in March last year. In the Japanese and Korean Art auction, the work Three large horizontal prints sold for USD 3,825.00 (€ 3,448.12) - well above the upper estimate of USD 1,500.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Kiyoshi Saito - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Showa era (1926-1989), which sold at auction in December 2020 for USD 14,025.00 (€ 11,467.70).
Oberer Schätzpreis um mehr als 100% übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von Kiyoshi Saito erzielte im März letzten Jahres bei Bonhams in New York einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Japanese and Korean Art wurde die Arbeit Three large horizontal prints für USD 3.825,00 (€ 3.448,12) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von USD 1.500,00. Für andere Arbeiten von Kiyoshi Saito mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Showa era (1926-1989) beobachtet, die im Dezember 2020 für USD 14.025,00 (€ 11.467,70) versteigert wurde.
