Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work H.M.S. Warrior escorting the Royal Yacht Victoria and Albert, March 1863 by S. Francis Smitheman was auctioned at Christies in London in May 2001, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 2,000.00 – 4,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 1,762.50 (€ 2,954.87). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by S. Francis Smitheman - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The windjammer Passat near Tower Bridge, circa 1930, which sold at auction in May 2003 for GBP 7,050.00 (€ 9,822.42).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit H.M.S. Warrior escorting the Royal Yacht Victoria and Albert, March 1863 von S. Francis Smitheman im Mai 2001 bei Christies in London versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 2.000,00 – 4.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für GBP 1.762,50 (€ 2.954,87) den Besitzer. Für andere Arbeiten von S. Francis Smitheman mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit The windjammer Passat near Tower Bridge, circa 1930 beobachtet, die im Mai 2003 für GBP 7.050,00 (€ 9.822,42) versteigert wurde.
