Auction result well in line with expectations
In November 2003 Christies in London held the auction MARITIME AND NAVAL BATTLES, which included the work H.M.S. Victory being towed into Gibraltar after the Battle of Trafalgar by S. Francis Smitheman. The price achieved of GBP 3,760.00 (€ 5,397.54) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. Other works by S. Francis Smitheman have already achieved higher auction prices, for example, in May 2003 the work The windjammer Passat near Tower Bridge, circa 1930 was auctioned for GBP 7,050.00 (€ 9,822.42).
