In December 2004 Christies in New York held the auction Important American Paintings, Drawings and Sculpture, which included the work The Competitor by Robert Tait McKenzie. Here, the upper estimate of USD 25,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for USD 28,680.00 (€ 21,184.81). With this result, The Competitor is even the most expensive work of art by Robert Tait McKenzie that we have observed at auctions so far.
