Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
The work The Villa Borghese, Rome (illustrated); The Piazza della Trinita dei Monte, Rome; and The Via Appia, Rome by Robert Henry Cheney was worth GBP 2,280.00 (€ 3,362.31) to a buyer in October 2005. This price was achieved in the auction WATERCOLOURS OF THE GRAND TOUR FROM A PRIVATE COLLECTION at Christies in London and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of GBP 700.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Robert Henry Cheney; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot A panoramic view of the Farnesina and the city of Rome sold at auction in June 2002 with the realized price of GBP 4,182.50 (€ 6,469.38).
