Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
When the work The Ponte della Verona, Venice (illustrated); The Palazzo Guistinian Lolin on the Grand Canal, Venice; and The Canal of the Guidecca, Venice by Robert Henry Cheney was auctioned at Christies in London in October 2005, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - GBP 600.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at GBP 1,920.00 (€ 2,831.42). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Robert Henry Cheney - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A panoramic view of the Farnesina and the city of Rome, which sold at auction in June 2002 for GBP 4,182.50 (€ 6,469.38).
