Sold at the lower estimate price
In December 2017 Christies in London held the auction Old Masters including Old Master & British Drawings and Watercolours, which included the work A Squirrel And Hamsters By A Basket Of Mushrooms, Fruit And Flowers; And A Monkey Caught Stealing Fruit By A Dog by Pseudo Jan Van Kessel II. The result of GBP 10,000.00 (€ 11,253.54) was exactly at the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 10,000.00 – 15,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Pseudo Jan Van Kessel II - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Grapes, Apples, Peaches In A Blue And White Porcelain Bowl, With Strawberries In A Broken Porcelain Bowl On A Stone Ledge, With A Monkey; And Grapes And Peaches In A Basket On A Raised Stone Ledge, With A Melon, Figs And A Turtle, which sold at auction in April 2016 for GBP 27,500.00 (€ 35,153.18).
