Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work A boy and girl drawing wine from a barrel by Pieter Cornelisz. van Slingelandt was auctioned at Christies in London in December 2011, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 1,500.00 (€ 1,796.46). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Pieter Cornelisz. van Slingelandt achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of a gentleman, three-quarter-length, in a 'Japansche rok', standing in a library, giving a messenger a letter in May 2008 with an auction result of EUR 216,250.00.
