Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work A Capriccio View Of A Busy Harbour Scene With Figures Loading Their Boats by Pieter Casteels II was auctioned at Sothebys in London in April 2013, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 3,000.00 – 4,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 2,250.00 (€ 2,655.13). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Pieter Casteels II achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Capriccio of A Busy Port With The Ruins of A Triumphal Arch; And A Capriccio of A Busy Port With A Bridge, A Coach In The Foreground in April 2008 with an auction result of GBP 22,100.00 (€ 28,174.38).

Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 3.000,00 – 4.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für GBP 2.250,00 (€ 2.655,13) den Besitzer.
