Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A young girl playing a guitar by Pierre Mignard was sold in the Important Old Master Paintings auction at Christies in New York in May 2003. The price achieved of USD 35,850.00 (€ 30,469.15) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 30,000.00 – 50,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Pierre Mignard - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait of a cleric, said to be Jean-François-Paul de Gondi, future Cardinal de Retz (1613-1679), seated three-quarter-length, a book in his hand, at a table, which sold at auction in December 2005 for GBP 78,000.00 (€ 113,212.63).
