Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work The Evening Gun: Men-O'-War And Barges In A Calm Sea by Peter Monamy was auctioned at Sothebys in London in May 2018, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 15,000.00 – 20,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 12,500.00 (€ 14,234.15). Admittedly, works by Peter Monamy have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The flagship Royal Sovereign saluting at the Nore in November 2010 with an auction result of GBP 109,250.00 (€ 130,553.58).
