Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Portrait Of Philippe-Grégoire Delaroche, Son Of The Artist, Half Length, Leaning On A Ledge by Paul Delaroche was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in February 2013, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 20,000.00 – 30,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 15,000.00 (€ 11,468.77). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Paul Delaroche achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Napoleon at Fontainebleau, 31 March 1814 in December 2010 with an auction result of GBP 289,250.00 (€ 335,529.13).
