Auction result misses estimated price range

When the work A Wooded Landscape With A Ruined Garden Wall With A Niche by Nicolas-Charles Silvestre was auctioned at Christies in London in July 2001, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 1,410.00 (€ 2,296.08). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Nicolas-Charles Silvestre - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work An extensive landscape with fishermen and travellers on a bridge, a town in the background, which sold at auction in July 2003 for GBP 4,182.50 (€ 5,466.81).
