The »bidding war« ended at EUR 3,500.00 17% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Nicolaas Riegen have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A calm: fishermen inspecting their catch in April 2003 with an auction result of EUR 17,925.00.

Die Arbeit A stiff breeze with a flatboat and a two-master near the Dutch coast von Nicolaas Riegen wurde im Mai 2014 in der Auktion Old Masters, 19th Century and Impressionist Art bei Christies in Amsterdam versteigert. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von EUR 3.500,00 und damit 17% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Nicolaas Riegen auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit A calm: fishermen inspecting their catch im April 2003 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von EUR 17.925,00.
