Auction result well in line with expectations
In December 2011 Christies in New York held the auction Photographs Including Crossing America: Photographs from The Consolidated Freightways Collection, Part II, which included the work Shoe Shines, New York City, 1945-1948 by Morris Engel. The price achieved of USD 3,750.00 (€ 2,890.62) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. Admittedly, works by Morris Engel have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Harlem Merchant, New York, 1937 in October 2007 with an auction result of USD 20,000.00 (€ 13,823.61).
