Mehdi Ghadyanloo (b. 1981) is an Iranian artist who originally came to prominence internationally for his masterful and surrealistic murals created on over 100 massive walls in his native Tehran and then more recently in London and across the United States. Artwork auctioned at six times the upper estimate price
When the work Undercurrents by Mehdi Ghadyanloo was auctioned at Sothebys in London in November 2018, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - GBP 2,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than six times as high at GBP 12,500.00 (€ 14,099.62). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Mehdi Ghadyanloo achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Exploration of the Sun in September this year with an auction result of CNY 1,512,000.00 (€ 195,714.29).
