Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Noo-Ka-Ping-Wa and His Harpooned Walrus Trophy, McMillan Expedition to the Arctic, 1925 by Maynard Owen Williams was auctioned at Christies in New York in December 2012, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 600.00 – 800.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 437.50 (€ 331.79). Admittedly, works by Maynard Owen Williams have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Citroen-Haardt Trans-Asiatic Expedition, Herat, Afghanistan, May 21, 1931 in December 2012 with an auction result of USD 2,750.00 (€ 2,085.55).
