Auction result well in line with expectations
The work An extensive mountain landscape seen through trees, with peasants and their flocks and travellers on a road beyond by Matthäus Merian the Elder was sold in the OLD MASTER PICTURES AND DRAWINGS auction at Christies in Amsterdam in November 2003. The price achieved of EUR 4,780.00 was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as EUR 4,000.00 – 6,000.00. Admittedly, works by Matthäus Merian the Elder have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Travellers in a harbour with galleons at anchor in July 2011 with an auction result of GBP 39,650.00 (€ 45,504.31).

Der dabei erzielte Preis von EUR 4.780,00 lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit EUR 4.000,00 – 6.000,00 angegeben worden.
