This artwork by Martinus Nellius achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in Amsterdam in September 2010. In the The Decorative Arts Sale auction, the work An orange, a quince, an oyster, a partly rolled-up leaflet, a wine glass, a red Admiral butterfly and a fly, all on a marble ledge sold for EUR 12,500.00 - well above the upper estimate of EUR 5,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Martinus Nellius; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Stilleben mit Zitrone und Weinglas, Vögeln und Schmetterlingen. sold at auction in September 2012 with the realized price of CHF 18,000.00 (€ 14,894.52).
