Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Marcus Stone achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in February 2007. In the Christopher Wood A Very Victorian Eye auction, the work Picking waterlilies sold for GBP 28,800.00 (€ 42,694.97) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 12,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Marcus Stone - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work My Lady is a Widow and Childless 'Tis better to be lowly born, and range with humble livers in content, than to be perk'd up in a glistering grief, and wear a golden sorrow' William Shakespeare, The Life of King Henry VIII, act II, scene, 3., which sold at auction in February 2003 for GBP 116,650.00 (€ 170,305.32).
Oberer Schätzpreis um mehr als 100% übertroffen
