This artwork by Marcel Brunery achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in January 2017. In the Master Paintings & 19th Century European Art auction, the work La Lecture sold for USD 35,000.00 (€ 32,425.42) - well above the upper estimate of USD 12,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Marcel Brunery; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot French The Late Fiancé sold at auction in April 2007 with the realized price of USD 66,000.00 (€ 48,316.25).
