This artwork by Major Charles Frederick Gibson achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in December 2016. In the Topographical Pictures auction, the work ‘Kingston U.C. taken from the Royal Artillery Mess Room’ sold for GBP 8,750.00 (€ 10,230.17) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 5,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Major Charles Frederick Gibson; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Seven views of Halifax, Nova Scotia sold at auction in December 2016 with the realized price of GBP 13,125.00 (€ 15,345.25).
