The authenticity of this work was confirmed by Ms. Lan Mai, the daughter of the artist, when she was asked for the previous sale in 2017 May 20th at Antibes Enchères.

Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In October 2021 Sothebys in Hong Kong held the auction Modern Art Evening Sale, which included the work L’éventail by Mai Trung Thu. The »bidding war« ended at HKD 5,620,000.00 (€ 625,147.16), 17% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Mai Trung Thu have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait De Mademoiselle Phuong in April 2021 with an auction result of HKD 24,375,000.00 (€ 2,609,725.69).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Im Oktober 2021 führte Sothebys in Hong Kong die Auktion Modern Art Evening Sale durch, in der auch die Arbeit L’éventail von Mai Trung Thu zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von HKD 5.620.000,00 (€ 625.147,16) und damit 17% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Mai Trung Thu auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Portrait De Mademoiselle Phuong im April 2021 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von HKD 24.375.000,00 (€ 2.609.725,69).
