In June 2008 Sothebys in New York held the auction Old Master & 19th Century European Art, which included the work Iceskating At Sunset by Ludwig Munthe. The »bidding war« ended at USD 10,625.00 (€ 6,746.89), 33% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Ludwig Munthe - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Harvest, which sold at auction in November 2001 for GBP 10,575.00 (€ 16,828.16).

Im Juni 2008 führte Sothebys in New York die Auktion Old Master & 19th Century European Art durch, in der auch die Arbeit Iceskating At Sunset von Ludwig Munthe zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 10.625,00 (€ 6.746,89) und damit 33% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Ludwig Munthe mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Harvest beobachtet, die im November 2001 für GBP 10.575,00 (€ 16.828,16) versteigert wurde.
