This artwork by Lucien Smith achieved an unexpectedly high price at Phillips in London in July 2014. In the Contemporary Evening Sale auction, the work Boys Don't Cry sold for GBP 116,500.00 (€ 146,943.13) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 60,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Lucien Smith; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Hobbes, The Rain Man, and My Friend Barney / Under the Sycamore Tree sold at auction in November 2013 with the realized price of USD 389,000.00 (€ 285,903.28).
