Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait of Prince Xavier of Saxony (1730-1806) as a child, full-length in a red coat with silver facings beating a drum; and Portrait of Princess Theresia of Saxony, full-length in an elaborately embroidered dress and cap with a garland of flowers o by Louis de Silvestre II was sold in the OLD MASTER PICTURES auction at Christies in London in October 2004. The price achieved of GBP 14,340.00 (€ 20,639.20) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 12,000.00 – 18,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Louis de Silvestre II - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Augustus closing the Temple of Janus, which sold at auction in May 2000 for USD 52,875.00 (€ 56,684.18).

Der dabei erzielte Preis von GBP 14.340,00 (€ 20.639,20) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit GBP 12.000,00 – 18.000,00 angegeben worden. Für andere Arbeiten von Louis de Silvestre II mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Augustus closing the Temple of Janus beobachtet, die im Mai 2000 für USD 52.875,00 (€ 56.684,18) versteigert wurde.
