Pen and brown ink (recto and verso) reinforced with point of the brush and grey wash (recto) over black chalk (verso);
extensively inscribed in brown ink along the upper edge, only partly legible:..dali boschi i arbori nella terra pui...., and also inscribed throughout the composition with colour notations and numbers;
bears old attribution in pen and brown ink, lower right: A. Carats; and in pencil on the verso: Carats

Auction result well in line with expectations
In July 2016 Sothebys in London held the auction Old Master and British Works on Paper Including drawings from the Oppé Collection, which included the work Recto: View Of An Italian Walled City With A River; Verso: A House With A 'Pergolato' by Lodewijk Toeput. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 5,000.00 – 7,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 5,250.00 (€ 6,238.14) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Lodewijk Toeput have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Veduta Del Parco Di Una Villa Con Figure Vicino A Una Fontana in May 2007 with an auction result of EUR 45,600.00.
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im Juli 2016 führte Sothebys in London die Auktion Old Master and British Works on Paper Including drawings from the Oppé Collection durch, in der auch die Arbeit Recto: View Of An Italian Walled City With A River; Verso: A House With A 'Pergolato' von Lodewijk Toeput zur Versteigerung kam. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 5.000,00 – 7.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 5.250,00 (€ 6.238,14) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Lodewijk Toeput auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Veduta Del Parco Di Una Villa Con Figure Vicino A Una Fontana im Mai 2007 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von EUR 45.600,00.
