Auction result well in line with expectations
The work La Payesa, Ibiza (A Peasant Woman, Ibiza) by Laureano Barrau was sold in the 19th Century Paintings including Spanish Painting and Symbolism & the Poetic Vision auction at Sothebys in London in November 2007. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 8,000.00 – 10,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 8,125.00 (€ 11,377.10) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Laureano Barrau - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Spanish gente De Mar (Fishermen), which sold at auction in November 2011 for GBP 22,500.00 (€ 26,266.45).
