Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Comic One Hundred Turns of the Rosary (Doke hyakumanben) by Kawanabe Kyosai was auctioned at Sothebys in London in May 2021, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 1,764.00 (€ 2,052.45). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Kawanabe Kyosai achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Hell Courtesan (Jigoku Dayu) in March 2010 with an auction result of USD 482,500.00 (€ 356,720.39).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Comic One Hundred Turns of the Rosary (Doke hyakumanben) von Kawanabe Kyosai im Mai 2021 bei Sothebys in London versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 2.000,00 – 3.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für GBP 1.764,00 (€ 2.052,45) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Kawanabe Kyosai erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Hell Courtesan (Jigoku Dayu) im März 2010 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 482.500,00 (€ 356.720,39).
